Iran’s Medical Equipment Exports: High Potential Alongside $20–50 Million in Annual Exports

Iran’s medical equipment exports have yet to reach their desired level despite the country’s extensive industrial and technological capabilities. Maryam Ghasemi, Secretary of the Association of Manufacturers and Exporters of Medical Equipment and Supplies, discussed the current state of exports in this industry and emphasized the need to expand the presence of Iranian companies in global markets.

Ghasemi stated that in recent years, Iran’s medical equipment exports have ranged from $20 million to $50 million. She described this figure as low compared with the country’s domestic capabilities and noted that medical equipment manufacturers have far greater potential to enter international markets. Iranian Medical Equipment Showroom to Showcase Domestic Capabilities

The Secretary of the Association of Manufacturers and Exporters of Medical Equipment also highlighted a new initiative by the association. She announced that a fully Iranian showroom has been established at Shahr-e Aftab, allowing domestic companies to present their products to international trade delegations.

Ghasemi explained that various trade delegations have visited the showroom. Many of these visitors had previously been unfamiliar with the capabilities of Iran’s medical equipment industry. However, after seeing Iranian products and technologies firsthand, they showed considerable interest in the country’s manufacturing capabilities.

Strategies for Expanding Medical Equipment Exports

Ghasemi stated that export development requires coordinated planning. She suggested that companies create joint product portfolios to offer complementary products together. This approach could strengthen the competitiveness of Iranian companies in international markets.

She also highlighted the government’s role in facilitating exports. According to Ghasemi, the government could help pave the way for exports by streamlining the medical equipment registration process in destination countries. Establishing reference laboratories in both countries of origin and destination, as well as moving toward regional standardization, are among the other measures that could support export development.
